Beneficiaries

The Holiday Hustle serves two purposes: to support the Chatelech and Elphinstone running teams (cross country and track & field); and to collect donations for the local Elves Club. Well, actually three: also to encourage community members to be fit and active!

The Holiday Hustle will help support the running teams by helping offset costs of travel to events, and school athletic team fees. The goal is to remove the money barrier to participating so any and all interested student athletes can join the team and begin a life-long love of the sport.

The middle distance teams train weekday mornings under the coaching of Larry Nightingale. In the fall they participate in Cross-Country which culminates in the provincial championships in early November. Then it's on to Track & Field in spring.

Food and Toy Hamper

The Elves Club began on the Coast in the early 70s, becoming incorporated as a charity in 1972. The group collected non-perishable food, one item per month, and membership fees of a penny a day, purchasing turkeys and fresh vegetables and gathering toys, combining everything into hampers and delivering them to those in need from Egmont to Port Mellon.

Years later the Elves Club continues, with a change in 2016 from hamper distribution to food vouchers. The group looks to the individuals and businesses on the Coast for support.

The Holiday Hustle 5k is participating in the 'Get Fit for the Elves Club' initiative.
